Membership Meeting Recap

By Scott Godshaw

The membership meetings were held on September 21, 2000 at 12:30 and 3:30, respectively, at the Bowlero.

President Greg Gorecki reported on the successful Labor Day March and Laborfest. We are starting to plan now for next years’ Labor Day. Other topics discussed by Gorecki included the Steward Training that was held at Monreal’s El Matador on September 6th; the Leadership Conference for the Bargaining Committees, the trustees and the Secretary-Treasurer that was held in Stevens Point; and brief updates on Strattec and Briggs. He also stated that John Nalepinski; Grievance Rep from West Allis filmed an impressive TV commercial for the National AFL-CIO in support of an ergonomic standard for OSHA.

Under new business, a motion was brought in by the Executive Board to utilize Scott Godshaw up to twice a week for job evaluation at Briggs. Tom Bishanell, our Local’s Compensation Analyst, has a backlog of grievances and is heavily involved in the job consolidation at Strattec. The motion passed unanimously.

Two other motions were presented to membership. These motions both were from a member from Strattec. In short, the first motion was for the Union, when presenting the next contract to membership, compare wages to other area companies, i.e. Rockwell (Allen Bradley), Harley Davidson and Delphi. This motion, albeit very close, was voted down as the majority of membership felt there wasn’t much of a purpose at that point.

The second motion dealt with comparing health insurance costs for a family of four with other area companies, again including, Rockwell, Harley Davidson and Delphi. This motion was passed.

Members are reminded that if you attend 6 membership meetings you are entitled to a very stylish black PACE Local 7-232 T-shirt and if you attend an additional 4 meetings within a year, you are entitled to receive a PACE Local 7-232 cap.

The next membership meeting will be held on Thursday, October 19th at 12:30 and 3:30 at the Bowlero. Please attend.
