Taking United Way a Step Further

by Greg Gorecki

On October 10th about 20 of our retirees, members, and our family and friends (pictured here) responded to a call for help from the Hunger Task Force. People dedicated their time and energy to help get the boxes of food packed, so less fortunate people in our community were able to get their allotted food on time. When we arrived, the people in charge asked us to try and make up, pack, seal and prepare 100 boxes per hour to be shipped the next morning.

We responded in a typical Union worker fashion by putting out 312 boxes per hour. After 2 hours we had depleted so much of the stock they told us to go home. I was proud to see the response from our people when there was a call for help, and the Hunger task Force was very grateful. I especially want to thank two of our younger volunteers who gave their time on a busy school night, they are Krystal Rodman, daughter of our Union office secretary Christine Rodman and Alle Schneider, daughter of Strattec grievance representative Karl Schneider.

Our Union will be volunteering to help out on other community issues. We will be at Hunger Task Force again on Saturday February 1, 2003 from 9a.m. until 12p.m. If you are interested in helping, call the office at 414-463-7425 and leave your name.
