Grievance Rep Report

Strattec Security

By

Karl Schneider

The Union was able to convince the Company to offer voluntary layoffs and then retirement to anyone that has 1973 or better seniority. Hopefully this will allow more senior members the opportunity to retire and less senior members will get recalled from involuntary layoff.

In another attempt to help our members the Company will allow voluntary layoffs for the skilled trades. What this will do is allow by seniority someone to go to voluntary layoff from the skilled trade classification where there is to be a reduction. For example the Company is reducing 1 millwright the most senior millwright takes the layoff that person would be out on voluntary layoff under the current contract. Lets use the same example again this time the least senior takes the voluntary as in any example of voluntary layoff the Company can only recall you to the job you volunteered for layoff from and only when there are no active members with former job rights transfers on file. However the member on voluntary can bring himself back by changing his status to involuntary layoff. They can do this 3 times in a calendar year. The Company will then recall you to your job and shift if you have the seniority if you do not have the seniority you will be recalled to the least senior job you can perform. The Company has up to 6 weeks to do the bump.

The Company went on to say they would offer the voluntaries retroactive to any trades that have already had an involuntary layoff.

Most of the other things going on at Strattec have been reported out on in other articles of this paper.

I would like to thank the Bargaining Committee for their support in the things I do to try and make improvements in the lives of our members.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the Stewards for the job they do.

To the Joint Boards, all the Stewards and all of our Members have a safe and Happy Holiday!

        In Solidarity,

        Karl Schneider
