Vacation hours
Your vacation hours are now being calculated from April
1st. to April 1st. of the vacation year. You need a total of 1600 hours to
received a full vacation check. If you have at least 600 hours you will get a
partial vacation check. Time lost from work because of industrial injury,
vacation, jury duty, paid bereavement, holidays, and voluntary layoff will count
as time worked for vacation purposes. Don’t forget, if you want to sign up
for" pay as you go" you have to sign up with Human Resources by April
30th. H. R. for M.E.D. is Carl Rutkowski, for Die Cast and Service Divisions
it’s Ken Dellemann, and in personnel see Carolynn Tyloch. Also, if your
department is working during the Vacation shutdown, you must be notified by
April 1st.
Fire
Their was a fire in Die Cast on Saturday March 16,2002. No
one was injured. Apparently one of the hydraulic hot oil hoses got caught
between the die sections and this caused the fire. Some employees were told to
go home, and other employees were allowed to finish their shifts. Yet the
company refused to pay 4 hours for the employees sent home. These employees
should have been paid for 4 hours, and the union is pursuing this.
Flywheel machining 2nd shift will be adding 4 operators,
and one setup person.
Steward obstructed
We recently had a problem where a steward was denied the
right to punch-out to perform Union Business. A meeting was called immediately.
The steward was told: “We don't have to let, you punch-out. The things you
have to do can wait." The steward should never be denied the right to
punch-out, provided you give the company a reasonable amount of time to replace
you on your job, if necessary. The Bargaining Committee did meet with the
Company, and as of today the union has not had another problem with this
procedure.
Workers Memorial Day
April 28th. is Workers Memorial Day, your steward and
grievance representative will have ribbons and stickers to hand out to all
members, please wear them on Friday, April 26, in observance of this day. One
life lost because of the work place is one to many. If you know of any unsafe
condition in your area notify your steward. On April 28th. "Mourn for the
Dead, and Fight for the Living."
In solidarity
