Wisconsin sportsman votes for working family candidates

By Ross Winklbauer

With the statewide elections coming up in November, I thought now would be a good time to write an article about why we should vote for working family candidates in our statewide elections.

I thought about writing the usual stuff, things like; vote for working family candidates because they care about workers issues such as affordable health care, safety in the work place and family supporting jobs, while the Conservatives, on the other hand, care about profits for big business. But then I thought no, let’s talk about the one other issue that seems important to the Conservatives, “gun control.”

As a life-member of the North American Hunting Club, the father of six sons and the grandfather of nine grandchildren, I can tell you that hunting and fishing is very important to our family.

Two years ago, my eldest granddaughter started hunting with her father and I. Last year my six year old grandson sat with me on a hunt. — Talk about memories in the making.

The reason I’m writing about my family is simple, the Conservatives and the N.R.A. (I’m a former member) will be sending out all kinds of messages telling us of how we should vote for the Conservatives so our children and grandchildren will have the right to carry guns and thus be able to hunt like us. But while they talk about protecting our weapons, they don’t talk about protecting our safety. We need protection at work and protection of family supporting jobs for our children and grandchildren.

As I’ve told my family many times, the only time I have ever experienced any real “gun control” was when we had a Conservative for a president and governor. This was due to the fact that I couldn’t AFFORD to buy a gun. The Conservatives only care about one issue, “big business.”
