In recent months, members of Local 7-232 ratified agreements with Briggs & Stratton  and Strattec Security. These agreements had many contentious issues that were resolved to the satisfaction of the majority of the members. One of the most important and most difficult issues was Health Insurance.

After agreements were reached based on agreements with insurance companies, both employers found that the insurance companies were not living up to the agreements.

Both employers kept the union involved as they put together replacement packages that provide negotiated benefits for members at the agreed upon rates. Both employers chose to assume more risk and more administration by self insuring the plans. Rates for the first year described in the contract will be honored at both employers. If costs are above that premium amount, they will absorb it. However, as in all plans, higher usage will be reflected in the next year’s rates.
