Grievance Rep Report

 Strattec Security Corp.

by Karl Schneider

As of this writing, all day workers have been recalled from layoff. With additional day work jobs available the company has recalled involuntary piece workers to open day work jobs. There are 5 voluntary and 4 involuntary piece workers still out on layoff. The company has told me the current production levels and employment levels would keep us at a 40hr week.

I would like to remind members that there are training opportunities through the learning center. In fact the learning center has training materials and tutoring available for any job for which the company requires a test. You may contact the instructor Rosemary Meineke, at extension. 3181 or 3650, she can help you get started.

I became aware of some safety concerns in Dept. 90 more specific the D-186 molder. I called Tom Kiepczynski to meet with the set-up people that work on that machine. Their steward myself and someone from skill trades are also involved. Our goals are to implement ideas on how they can do their job safely. We have met twice and will continue to meet until all safety concerns are resolved.

The company has told me that the FINOPS meetings are open to all to attend as long as production requirements are meet.

At this time, I would like to highlight a part of our constitution that we as members of Local 7-232 are sworn to in our initiation as members. Section 14 reads in part “that I will not wrong a member, or see him or her wronged, if in my power to prevent.” I feel strong Union’s are built on strong members. If you have any questions on this subject feel free to ask me.

In closing, I would like to thank all of the stewards for their hard work and dedication.

                                                            In Solidarity,

                                                            Karl Schneider
