Financial Planning session explored for members

Local 7-232 has been approached by several companies offering financial services that they believe would benefit our members. Our union is not in the position to give financial advice or to recommend one provider of services over another. However we do realize that our members do need to access some financial planning services and be aware of options in planning their retirement.

The Executive Board met with some of these companies and found that some of the information could be useful to members. While we are not recommending any particular service provider, we are proposing a seminar for members to learn of options. We will have providers there to explain their products, but members will have no obligation to purchase anything.

We hope to have presentations on financial planning, 401k rollovers (or rolling over lump sum pension payments), information on the possibility of using life insurance as an alternative to joint survivor options on the pension plan, information on estate planning, long term care, IRA's, mandatory withdrawal requirements for IRA's and other items. This will be held this session only if we get sufficient interest from membership.
