Campbell started at Briggs on September 14th, 1972 as a pieceworker in Dept. 194. He also worked briefly in Dept. 380 and ended his career in Dept. 188. During his illustrious Union career, Colin served the membership as an Executive Board member, the Sergeant-At-Arms from 1984 - 1990. He was the editor of our Local paper, The Reporter from 1980 through 1990 when he took a leave of absence to become the Assistant Editor of the Milwaukee Labor Press. For several years he was the steward in Dept. 188. Campbell served as our TV-radio media liaison during the 1983 strike. He was an alternate grievance representative of the South division and also served as a delegate to the Milwaukee County Labor Council. His time was also occupied on many local Union committees including By-Law (co-chair), Health and Safety, One-on-One and Election. He was elected Vice-President in 2000. This writer would like to pay a special tribute. Colin Campbell was instrumental in encouraging me to get involved in the Union. Colin was a true Unionist and always impressed upon me to do what was right for the people. I would personally like to thank him for all the help and support throughout the years. Campbell, while presiding over his last membership meeting, stated, "I will surely miss my good friends and the active role I had in the Union. This Union is one to be proud of and I am proud to serve with the finest group of leaders I've ever been associated with. He ended his oration with, "Keep fighting the good fight." Mike Merrill and Barb Schuller, Burleigh grievance representatives, both commented how much Campbell will be missed and thanked him for all the help he gave them. On behalf of the Joint Board and the membership, thank you Colin for your active role in this Union and good luck in all your future endeavors.
