Briggs Workers Comp using "rehabilitation nurses"

by Ross Winklbauer

Briggs & Stratton has hired Corvel Corporation to help them with their Workers Compensation cases.

According to Scott Shaver, the manager of Workers Compensation at Briggs, the rehabilitation nurses will be assigned to monitor your care. They will talk to your doctor or therapist to see what type of care you are receiving.

When told that we had gone through this before, all it had done was cause problems for the patients and the Company, Scott said he didn't want to come between the patients and their doctors but needed to control expenses. An example of this would be; let's say you have an injury and should be off maybe 4-6 weeks but you are still off 8 weeks later, the nurse would contact your doctor to find out why.

Scott said he isn't planning on sending the nurses with the patients to their doctor's appointments. "I'm not trying to be strong-handed, I'm just trying to control costs."

As of this writing, the nurses have been calling patients at home and letting them know they have been assigned their case. If you have any problems with them, be sure to contact your representatives.
