Tom Bishanell hired as Compensation Analyst

by Scott Godshaw

On May 5, 2000, Local 7-232 hired a new Compensation Analyst. This was done after reviewing all applications and two days of interviews by the Executive Board and Bargaining Committees from both companies.

The new analyst is Tom Bishanell. Tom had been a Quality Analyst, working second shift in the Spec Division. The Joint Board interviewed eight candidates for this position. Many members with excellent credentials applied for this job. After all consideration was done, the Board clearly felt that Bishanell was the best candidate.

Tom has 24 years of seniority. He has worked at all the plants represented by Local 7-232. He worked at the West Allis, Menomonee Falls, Burleigh plants as well as working at the Good Hope while it was still part of Briggs & Stratton. This experience will help him be more familiar with the various jobs he will be analyzing.

Tom has a Bachelor’s Degree in economics. He has also taken many courses since he received his degree, some were related to his jobs at Briggs & Stratton as well as other schooling not related to his job at Briggs. He recently passed the CMM test to make him qualified as a Layout Inspector.

Since he began working for Local 7-232 he completed the week-long course in Time Study at the School for Workers in Madison.

The position of Union Compensation Analyst is a full time position with Local 7-232. In that position, Tom will be performing time studies on grieved jobs and evaluating daywork jobs grieved for upgrade. He will meet with the companies on these grievances and work to get the rates or labor grades adjusted. He will also evaluate new jobs, to make recommendations to the Bargaining Committee on approval for the new job description and labor grade.

The position became vacant when Greg Gorecki, who had been the Compensation Analyst for Local 7-232, was elected president.

In his interview, Tom pledged that if hired, he would strive to be the best analyst the Local ever had. We feel that Tom will do an excellent job as our analyst.
