Second Shift - Burleigh & Menomonee Falls Plants

By Jesse Edwards

Transfers

If the Company must send employees home for lack of work, the affected employees may volunteer to leave by seniority. When a vacancy or shift opening occurs, the first opportunity to fill that job shall be given to the most senior employee. Transfer requests shall not be denied because of absenteeism or work record unless either or both of them are poor and the employee has failed to correct them within six (6) months after being warned. Transfer requests shall be valid for six (6) months from the date of filing or renewal. An employee may be denied only once if there is no qualified replacement immediately available and then only in the first six (6) months from the original date of filing.

Die Cast Layoff

When Die Cast split into separate departments, it was agreed to have the resulting departments treated as one department at the time of layoff. If an employee is on a job whose classification is the same as the least senior in a similar department in the division, the Company will directly transfer the affected employee to the similar department in the division and the least senior employee in the group of similar departments will be laid off.

Vacation

All employees who have seniority on May 1st of the vacation year and who have worked for the Company more than 600 hours doing the 52 week period preceding May 1st of the vacation year, are entitled to a vacation with pay at a rate equivalent to their average hourly earning (including overtime and shift pay). Time lost from work because of industrial injuries, vacations, jury duty, paid bereavement, holidays and voluntary layoffs, shall be considered as time worked.

A total of 1600 hours of work doing the 52 week period preceding May 1st of the vacation year, will be considered a full year’s employment and will entitle one who has worked that many hours or more to 40 hours of vacation and pay. Employees who have less than 1600 hours, your vacation pay will be pro-rated based on the number of hours worked. Members who have two or more years seniority by May 1st will receive that amount of pay multiplied by the number of weeks vacation to which they are entitled.

If you are receiving vacation pay on a lump sum, you will get your check on the third Wednesday in June (June 21, 2000). This year the vacation shutdown will start July 17, 2000 and you should return to work on July 31, 2000. If you work the July shutdown, you will avoid using the number of days vacation that you work from a minimum entitlement of 10 days. You will not receive any more additional days.

Office

The North Union office at the Burleigh plant has moved. The office is located near Column F32 that is at the old plant 4 office. If you have any questions, please see your Steward or Grievance Representative.
