Plan now to join Local 7-232 and area unions at LaborfestBy Scott GodshawIt’s never too early to start thinking about Laborfest on Labor Day Sept.4, 2000 at the lakefront. Far be it from me to see Summer disappear so quickly, however we feel it’s in everyone’s interest to mark that date on your calendar now! The festivities start at Zeidler Union Square (4th and Michigan) with a march to the lakefront at 11:00am. Leading this parade, as usual, will be a contingent of Harley–Davidson Motorcycles, followed by antique cars. So, if you have a Harley or an antique car and choose not to march you can still participate. The parade ends at the Summerfest grounds, which opens at noon. Admission is free for everyone. Activities include a classic car show, a children’s area with clowns, face painting, stage shows, basketball, volleyball, arts and crafts, and bingo; the Union Industries Show, adult bingo, a live band on the Miller Stage and food and beverages available from various vendors. Laborfest is always a great time and an excellent opportunity to rub elbows with other union members from all sectors: public employees, the building trades, industry and service. Our local always participates in the march and encourages all members with their families and friends to join in. Everyone that participates in the parade will receive a Local 7232 T-shirt. Due to high demand for the T-shirts for participants, we would appreciate it if you would phone the Union office 463-7425 to inform us how many T-shirts you will need and what sizes you require. You will receive your T-shirt on Labor Day morning prior to the march. So again, mark September 4, 2000, Labor Day, on your calendar. Let’s all participate and get involved-You won’t be disappointed! It is time to put the “U” back in Union! Be there! |
