Strattec declares vacation shutdown

At Strattec, they are using the shutdown language, and declaring it a vacation shutdown for that one day. This means all members who are entitled to at least one day of vacation will use a vacation day on that day. There will be no other vacation shutdown at Strattec this year.

This has upset many members with low seniority and limited vacation time. In recent years Strattec has not had a two-week summer shutdown. If they did this as the contract permits, it would be even more restrictive for members who have little vacation time.

By shutting down for only one day, members with two weeks or less of vacation still have some time to request whatever vacation days when they want to have off.

Hopefully, they will be awarded their requests.

Briggs closes - Lack of Work

At the four Briggs and Stratton plants, Monday July 3, will be treated as a lack of work day. It will not be a vacation day. However, members that have chosen to receive their vacation pay as they use it, may designate July 3rd as a vacation day to receive pay for that day on that week’s paycheck.

The only exceptions will be the Model Shops in the R&D area and the Rehab Dept. The company has informed us that they plan to work in those departments.

Many members did not want to come back for the one day before the holiday and are relieved at the plan to not open for one day. Other members have asked if this violates the contract. It would violate the contract if it were done for the purpose of work spreading to prevent a layoff. At this time, it does not appear that work spreading is the intent of this one-day shutdown.
