Grievance Rep Report
West Allis Plant

Update on projected moves
At our informational meeting on January 9, 2001, we were informed that
Model 40 flywheel would be moved to the Burleigh Plant in March of this year.
The V-Twins which were being moved down South will stay here for another
year or so and be moved to the Burleigh Plant in April of this year. OHV
Electric will also stay 50,000 run rate per year.
The Model 28 flywheels will be up and running in Statesboro sometime in
March of this year. We then will build some stock for the move. (Note: No dates were given)
The new factory M8X will have three different areas. M8F which is
flywheels, M8D which is cam gears and M8M which is manifolds. The jobs will
remain long running and as operators we can run in any area, seniority
permitting, in this factory M8X.
To our dismay, the new plastic cam gear has been perfected and also a new
design in our counter-weights may displace some good living wage jobs for our
members.
Disability Benefits
Disability benefits has become a real issue for some of our members. I
have two 3rd stage grievances, one is a discharge and the other is a members’
benefits were stopped. The forms, which are sent to your doctor, are very
misleading. There is no line that states the patient is 100% disabled. If your
doctor does not disable you 100%, your benefits are stopped on the day he signs
the form. If your restrictions are great, there is a chance you cannot collect
unemployment. To collect unemployment you must fall into the 15% class of jobs
that you can do with the restrictions the doctor states. MEMBERS BEWARE….
Stewards
In closing, I would just like to thank the Stewards for the great job
they perform protecting our members’ rights.
In solidarity,
John Nalepinski
