Union’s Secretary Retires
July
27th of 1974, AIW Local 232 hired Beverly Pfaff (now Beverly Hartstone) as a
temporary, part-time secretary. A few days after she was hired, Local 232 went
on strike at Briggs & Stratton.
Due
to the strike, she never got a chance to work part time. The work related to the
strike and contract settlement kept the Local 232 office roaring for quite a
while. After a couple months, the temporary designation was also removed.
On
January 1, 2002, Beverly will retire from PACE Local 7-232 after over 27 years.
Her duties have included receptionist, typist, and keeping records of members
work status, transfers, addresses, dues payments and grievances.
She
went from being a part time temporary secretary to become the Secretary
Supervisor for our office. At one time we had four secretaries. In recent years,
Beverly has been our only secretary, as our office staff, like our membership,
was reduced. The volume of her duties shrunk, while the scope of her duties have
increased.
Beverly is a member of the Office & Professional Employees
International Union, Local 9 for 40 years.
She
will be “retiring” to a new home in Arkansas. But if we know Beverly,
retirement will be very busy.
Good
Luck Beverly!
