Grievance Rep Report
Burleigh/Men. Falls Plant Second Shift
By

Smoking
The new restrictive smoking policy goes into effect January 1, 2002. For
people who smoke, the Company will offer three (3) 45-minute sessions on coping
without smoking. The sessions will be held on December 11, 2001 in the Burleigh
Plant South Cafeteria at 7:15 a.m., 1:45 p.m. and 3:45 p.m. There will also be
designated smoking areas in the plant.
Group change
Employees who made a group change at least one (1) month prior to the
Christmas shutdown should be called back within six (6) weeks after January 1,
2002 to your labor grade and classification, seniority permitting.
Stewards
The steward is the first chain of command and he is also the backbone of
the Union. Therefore, when you have a concern or an issue, please go see your
steward.
Unemployment compensation/medical benefits
A lot of our members are still on layoff without unemployment
compensation or medical benefits. The Senators and Congressmen have not passed a
Bill to help these people. This is very sad.
Grievances
I just settled one (1) grievance and I have a Second Stage scheduled for
next week. I do have a discharge, but at this time, I am trying to get the
Company to bring the person back to work. If not, that grievance will be going
to Third Stage.
Jobs added
Department 472 has added four (4) warehouse attendants on second shift.
Bereavement during holidays
If you lose a family member and are entitled to bereavement during the
Christmas shutdown, you should take your bereavement time right after the
holiday period. Do not report for work. Instead, call in your bereavement and
take that time right after the holidays. If you come to work and punch in, you
will lose your bereavement leave and pay.
Happy holidays
There will not be a meeting in December, so I would like to
wish everybody a Happy Holiday Season. See you next year.
In solidarity,
Jesse Edwards
