Grievance Rep ReportStrattec Security Corp.by Karl SchneiderBrothers and Sisters, I was really hoping to write a positive article this month and it started out that way. In the beginning of the month, Greg and I were able to settle two grievances that were going to arbitration. At the end of the month, Dennis and I (Al was on vacation) were able to negotiate a settlement on a policy grievance that was going to arbitration (check distribution). The Company will put out a form similar to vacation back charge and they will communicate the guidelines on how to pick up someone else’s check. We are still waiting for answers from two arbitration hearings. One is a discharge and the other is a Policy grievance on 21-day language. I have more grievances that I thought we could have resolved, but that has not happened as of this writing. We have a new Steward in Die Cast on 1st shift. Maridella Shaw accepted the nomination. Mari represents L.G. 18-27. She has a tough job ahead of her, as do all stewards. I ask that membership be patient and supportive. I want to thank Mari for taking on the challenges that come with being a steward. There is a new WGL in Die Cast on 1st shift. His name is Dave Cass. I talked with Dave before he was offered the job and he seemed like a knowledgeable person in managing people with a union background. His management style is to be proactive in resolving issues. The Company has also hired a 2nd shift WGL in Assembly. His name is Curt Meyer. I have not met Curt, nor do I know anything about him. Now for some of the unpopular subjects. The Company has asked the Union to identify our Job Consolidation Committee, which is contractual because they are ready to move forward with this part of the contract. We are meeting as a committee, along with Ernie, to go over the Company’s proposals. I will keep membership informed as much as possible. Also, I continue to ask the Company to hire more people. I feel we are working short handed corporate wide. I would like to pass on some bullets of information. By now everyone that was affected by Humana dropping Medical Associates should know they signed a contract and everything should be the same as when you enrolled. That has not happened at Aurora, but they did extend the PCP through 9-30-00 if you are in Racine, Kenosha and Walworth counties. Look at your FMLA papers to make sure all the information is correct to the best of your knowledge and that the questions that pertain have been answered by your physician. If you qualify for Short Term Disability, you can also use FMLA. If you have a non-industrial injury or illness and you cannot do your regular job, you can do light duty for one (1) day, if that work is available. I want to thank everyone for participating in the surveys. Again, I want to thank all the Stewards for their time, dedication and efforts in helping to uphold the Contract. Last, I would like to remind everyone about LABORFEST. If you are in town, please join us. It is free. Meet at Zeidler Union Square Park (4th and Michigan). There will be free food and beverage tickets to all members that march in the parade. If there are any tickets left, they will be distributed at the Summerfest ground. In solidarity, Karl Schneider |
