The Union Advantage
America's Union members enjoy many advantages over workers that
have not joined together to form unions. They gain more dignity and security in
the workplace. They also consistently enjoy higher wages and better benefits.
Every year the United States Governments Department Of
Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics show us what union members already know:
Union workers earn 45% more in pay and benefits than nonunion workers on the average. Union workers get almost twice the benefits, including Health Insurance, paid vacations and retirement as nonunion workers. Union workers earn
32% more in wages than nonunion workers on the average.

In 1998, union members had median weekly earnings of
$659 compared with a median of $499 for nonunion employees. The
advantage for women and minorities is even greater. As
you can see, the only way to gain a voice on the job, to make real changes in the workplace is to join together in a union.
